Ι What Are Overmolded Magnets?
Overmolding is a manufacturing process in which a layer of material, typically plastic, is molded over an existing component such as a metal insert or permanent magnet. This creates a composite part where the core component is fully or partially encapsulated by a protective outer layer, improving strength, durability, and functionality while reducing separate assembly steps and labor costs. Overmolded magnets, a type of plastic integrated magnet, are magnetic assemblies produced using this technique.
By encapsulating permanent magnets with plastic, overmolded magnets offer excellent impact resistance, environmental protection, and a strong, permanent bond between the magnet and the outer material. They are widely used in civilian products, automotive components, and medical devices, where reliable magnetic performance, resistance to harsh conditions, and secure integration into surrounding structures are critical for long-term, stable operation.
