Ι What Are SmCo Arc Magnets?

Samarium Cobalt magnets, also referred to as SmCo magnets, are the first commercially viable rare-earth permanent magnets. They offer a valuable combination of strong magnetic performance, excellent temperature stability, and good corrosion resistance.

SmCo arc magnets are a specialized form of SmCo magnets, made with curved shapes for rotating machinery such as rotors and stators. They are typically produced as segments or tiles, so they fit round motor structures and deliver magnetic force in the required direction.

Samarium Cobalt arc magnets—also known as curved magnets, tile magnets, or segment magnets—are used in permanent magnet motors, generators, and magnetic couplings where high-temperature resistance and reliability are essential.

While SmCo arc magnets are less widely used than Neodymium arc magnets, the two share many key characteristics. Both can use similar magnetization directions, machining methods, and arc geometries designed to improve motor performance. The main advantage of Samarium Cobalt arc magnets is their superior heat tolerance and resistance to demagnetization, making them a better choice for high-temperature applications where Neodymium arc magnets may not remain stable.
